FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is IV therapy and why is it necessary?

Intravenous (IV) therapy (applying through a vein) bypasses the digestive system and efficiently delivers nutrients directly to the bloodstream. In today’s environment and lifestyle, it is common for people to develop low levels of essential amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. No nutrient is 100 percent digested and absorbed even when digestion is optimal. When digestion is compromised or reduced such as “leaky gut syndrome”, frequently only 20 percent (or less) of the essential nutrients in food and supplements are absorbed. IV therapy allows the digestive system and liver, time for restoration and recovery.

How long will the IV therapy last?

Intravenous (IV) nutrients can remain in the body for days or weeks. The exact length is dependent on each person and the type of IV received. A series of IVs can be ordered based upon review of laboratory results and any medical conditions. In an IV series, each IV builds upon the previous one until optimal nutrient levels have been restored. In maintenance mode, a client may have an IV treatment every month or every quarter depending on need.

What happens during an IV treatment?

When you check-in for your appointment, you will be taken to a comfortable IV room. Once the IV is placed, there is a thin, flexible plastic tube in your arm, not a needle, where the IV liquid will flow through. During the treatment you may sit up or recline as desired and you may read, watch a video and/or listen to music. We will continuously monitor the treatment and once complete, we easily remove the tube and place a small tape over the site of treatment.

How long does an IV take?

Generally, IV treatments take 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the type and combination of IV Therapy needed. In some specialized cases, an IV could run as long as 3-4 hours. The length of treatment depends on the individual and the formulation being given. During the treatment, we can gradually increase the speed of the IV infusion which reduces the overall length of treatment. Individual time allowance will be discussed prior to actual treatment taking place.

How should I prepare for an IV treatment?

Please eat a meal within two hours prior to your appointment. Getting an IV on an empty stomach can lead to nausea, headache or in rare cases, vomiting. It is important to be sufficiently hydrated for your IV treatment. Please drink plenty of water (2-3 liters suggested, based on weight) both the day of and the day before your appointment.
